Up to 120 families per year in Colchester and South Tendring with children aged 0 to 11 will receive support through a Big Lottery funded project. The project seeks to address unmet needs such as home management, developing healthier lifestyles and enhancing parenting skills.

£228,000 over three years has been awarded to Home-Start Colchester, an independent charity delivering a Home-Start volunteer home visiting service across Colchester borough. The model invests in training local volunteers to offer a home visiting service to support parents as the ‘sustaining agent’ in the child’s life and see the home as the ‘sustaining background’.

As a result of this award, a skilled key worker will be able to visit each family at home to discuss issues and begin to build levels of trust by creating a bespoke action plan tailored to the family’s specific needs. Emotional and practical support will be provided, building parents' confidence and self-esteem.

The grant was obtained with support from the Essex County Council Funding & Investment Team. Based in County Hall, the team is comprised of funding and finance professionals and provides Essex-based businesses, charities and third sector organisations with the additional capabilities and capacity, specialist advice and the strategic direction required to secure competitive funding.
